CSA Members

The 2024 CSA Share pick up will likely begin the second week of June, but we will be in touch once we see how the spring goes. The hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.

If you need to change your pick up day, please go to this link to make the change before 8 a.m. on the day of your pick up.

Our CSA Handbook has information about picking up your CSA share, U-picking tips, and vegetable storage tips.

U-Pick items are available any time they are in season for CSA members. When you come, please check the U-Pick board for any changes.

There is also a Medicinal Herbs Garden plot, now in its fifth year of operation.  Local herbalist LuAnn Raadt has cultivated 120 varieties of plants that have traditionally been used in herbal health remedies — all of which are organic and of the highest quality.  CSA members interested in gathering medicinal herbs may contact LuAnn at luannraadt@gmail.com to set up a time to meet at the farm.  She also offers occasional classes on various aspects of herbalism as well as plant walks to learn more about these health-giving herbs.  Much more information can be found on her website, Herbs for All.

Great add-ons for 2024!

Add a season of local sheep cheese to your CSA!  Each month you’ll receive a special selection of three sheep cheeses selected to complement your Open Hands Farm CSA produce.  Chosen by cheesemaker Jodi, your cheeses will include Shepherd’s Way favorites Big Woods Blue, Friesago, Shepherd’s Hope, Hidden Falls along with harder-to-find and seasonal cheeses Morcella, Sogn, Skyr, Ricotta and others. Each share also includes notes about the farm and the cheeses, pairing suggestions, and recipe recommendations. Shepherd’s Way farmstead sheep cheeses are made by hand (by Jodi!), on the family farm, with milk from Shepherd’s Way pasture-based sheep. Jodi and Steven live and work on the farm outside Nerstrand, across from to the Big Woods State Park. Steven has been raising dairy sheep since 1994 and Jodi has been making sheep cheese for more than 20 years.

GRASS FED BEEF
Hanappe Ranch

Hanappe Ranch is your local source for organically raised grass fed beef.  Our animals are born and humanely raised on our ranch in Castle Rock, MN.  They have access to fresh air, fresh water, and room to socialize as cattle will.  We rotationally graze our animals in the green months, and feed them our own organic hay during the brown and white months.  We raise Black Angus, American Wagyu and Wagyu beef.  Our CSA Black Angus offerings will be sent out in an email directly to members.  Beef orders will be delivered to Open Hands Farm the second week of CSA shares, or as coordinated with Hanappe Ranch.  Custom packages, American Wagyu, hotdogs, summer sausages and quarters are also available.

Free Range Chicken

Burning Daylight Farm

We pride ourselves on how we raise our meat birds. Once it is nice enough outside our chicks are truly free range! From the time they are let out in the morning until the afternoon the chickens are out hunting and foraging. We wait to give them grains until later in the day so that they range and hunt like ‘normal’ chickens. These happy, healthy birds come running when they see us coming with their treats. Since they eat a varied, natural, and healthy diet their meat is of the highest quality; juicy and flavorful. Enjoy the fresh taste of our farm-raised chicken today!

Priced per pound. $5/lb. Birds are generally 3- 5lbs each. 125 whole birds available for pick up at Burning Daylight farm on 6/5 or 7/31. We sell our birds as whole birds, but If you purchase at least 5 birds you are welcome to come between 12-4pm on the pick up days and we will teach/help you break down and package your birds into whatever cuts you prefer.
