The 2023 CSA Share pick up will begin the 2nd or 3rd week of June. The hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.

If you need to change your pick up day, please go to this link to make the change before 8 a.m. on the day of your pick up.

Our CSA Handbook  has information about picking up your CSA share, U-picking tips, and vegetable storage tips.

U-Pick items are available any time for CSA members. When you come, please check the U-Pick board for any changes.

There is also a Medicinal Herbs Garden plot, now in its fifth year of operation.  Local herbalist LuAnn Raadt has cultivated 120 varieties of plants that have traditionally been used in herbal health remedies — all of which are organic and of the highest quality.  CSA members interested in gathering medicinal herbs may contact LuAnn at luannraadt@gmail.com to set up a time to meet at the farm.  She also offers occasional classes on various aspects of herbalism as well as plant walks to learn more about these health-giving herbs.  Much more information can be found on her website, Herbs for All.

Great add-ons for 2022!

Add a season of local sheep cheese to your CSA!  Each month you’ll receive a special selection of three sheep cheeses selected to complement your Open Hands Farm CSA produce.  Chosen by cheesemaker Jodi, your cheeses will include Shepherd’s Way favorites Big Woods Blue, Friesago, Shepherd’s Hope, Hidden Falls along with harder-to-find and seasonal cheeses Morcella, Sogn, Skyr, Ricotta and others. Each share also includes notes about the farm and the cheeses, pairing suggestions, and recipe recommendations. Shepherd’s Way farmstead sheep cheeses are made by hand (by Jodi!), on the family farm, with milk from Shepherd’s Way pasture-based sheep. Jodi and Steven live and work on the farm outside Nerstrand, across from to the Big Woods State Park. Steven has been raising dairy sheep since 1994 and Jodi has been making sheep cheese for more than 20 years.

CRAFTED HARD CIDER
Keepsake Cidery

Get the benefits of being a cider club member (member party, Keepsake merchandise, cider tastings, priority invites to other events) and join us at the Orchard and Cidery south of town for delicious local food.  In the Tasting Room, get cider and yummy toasties in a relaxed and beautiful environment, and receive exclusive discounts as a Cider Club member!  You can join as a half share (13 wine-sized bottles) or full share (26 wine-sized bottles) member for the season. This is a convenient way to enjoy traditionally crafted hard cider pressed from local apples throughout the year and support another Northfield area family business. Ours is a time-intensive process that focuses on apples, yeast and time (no artificial flavors/sweeteners). We let the apples to do the talking! We found with past experience that are Cider club members enjoy picking up their cider at the Cidery whenever they’d like when we are open, but we can offer the option of picking up on three distributions on your CSA pick up day. We will coordinate that individually with you!

GRASS FED BEEF
Hanappe Ranch

Hanappe Ranch is your local source for organically raised grass fed beef.  Our animals are born and humanely raised on our ranch in Castle Rock, MN.  They have access to fresh air, fresh water, and room to socialize as cattle will.  We rotationally graze our animals in the green months, and feed them our own organic hay during the brown and white months.  We raise Black Angus, American Wagyu and Wagyu beef.  Our CSA Black Angus offerings: 65# package, 30# box, summer box, cases of ground beef, briskets.  Beef orders will be delivered to Open Hands Farm the second week of CSA shares, or as coordinated with Hanappe Ranch.  Custom packages, American Wagyu, hotdogs, summer sausages and quarters are also available.

Add to your CSA share with local, freshly baked organic bread made with freshly milled organic flour! We are a small wholesale bakery in St. Peter that specializes in naturally leavened artisan breads made with as many local and organic ingredients as possible.  We purchase much of our flour from local organic farmer, Ben Penner of Penner Farms and Bakersfield Flour and Bread in Minneapolis.  We love supporting our local grain chain, so thank you for helping to make that possible.  You have three choices:

Artisan Bread Share – $145/share (18 weeks).  1 Artisan Boule a week.  Rotate between 4-6 varieties.  Some examples:  Whole wheat Multigrain, Lark and Loon (Sunflower + Flax), Toasted Walnut and Olive, Cornmeal Rosemary, Artisan Sourdough, Bakers Whim.
